Start Fresh on Monday

Starting the Monday after Thanksgiving :), I aim to lose 25 pounds.

My ideal, healthy weight is 120 – 125, I am now approximately 150.

25 pounds thats about 5 bags potatoes I’m carrying around on a daily basis!!

It’s not good for my heart, my joints or any of my other vital organs…not to mention none of my jeans fit very well anymore.

So

I’m going to give myself about 8 wks to meet my goal.

I somehow think this is totally unrealistic for me as I do love food and have as of yet not learned to push my plate away! This is also the first time I’ve tried to lose weight.

I have a desk job which requires I sit for most of my day, my children are older and more independent, and don’t need me to play with them outside or take them for walks anymore I just haven’t been as active as I used to be.

I love yoga so that is definitely on my list, and as most of you know I like the odd glass of wine now and then 🙂 so I’ll have to cut that out…maybe just cut down a bit, summer is over so this should be easier.

My girlfriends and I had started going to “the gym” earlier this year, then we all became too busy over the summer, so I think this is something we/I should start again, and at “the gym” they have a “Hypervibe” machine which I love, you just stand there and get jiggled around for about 10 minutes and it’s equivalent to a 60 minute workout!!

I am also going to make an effort to make sure I fit excercise into my day everyday, which I have obviously not been making time for.

I have one week to prepare and I’ll be able to indulge over the Thanksgiving weekend and..

start fresh on Monday.

🙂

Pickles by 5:15

Well just call me Angie homemaker.

I’ve just made 6 whole jars of dill pickles!!

I got home from work at 3:45 went to the library and have made pickles all by 5:15!!

And blogging by 5:30.

How amazing am I ?

Amazing yes I am 🙂

I am so amazing in fact I couldn’t find the cords for my camera to download a picture of my own so I had to steal one off the internet.

I had prepared my pickle jars last night and was ready to mix up my brew when I realized I didn’t have any salt, only a little left in the shaker.

On my way home from work I just stopped at the “cona stoa” for the salt, quick stop at the library and  home , boil the vinegar, water and salt for 5 minutes.

TaDa Gourmet pickles!!

I’ll let you know in 3 months how they actually taste.

I must go and prepare a hearty home cooked meal for my family….I’m thinkin its “gotta be KD” tonight.

Yours truly

Angie homemaker. 🙂

Chinese fortune…in the bedroom.

My family and I had lunch with my mum and my sister today, as always, entertaining, and since my sister is the self-proclaimed interesting one,  we, as always had alot fun and  laughs, after many tiny cups of green tea, crab legs, stirfrys and deep-fried foods we were given our fortune cookies, my favorite part….my sister showed us a new way of opening up the little bags with our cookies in them by simply placing them on the table and smacking them, BANG, nothing but a crushed cookie and our fortunes among the ruins.

As we were reading our “fortunes” out loud she suggested that we add ” in the bedroom” to the phrase hidden inside the cookie:

A man with blue eyes has a surprise for you….in the bedroom

Today is probably a huge improvement over yesterday….in the bedroom

The end is near and it’s not your fault….in the bedroom

You are not illeterate….in the bedroom

Fortune said a palm can say alot when it smacks….in the bedroom

Do not eat any chinese food today or you will be very sick….in the bedroom

A new pair of shoes will do you the world of good….in the bedroom

You will die alone and poorly dressed….in the bedroom

So next time your reading your fortune cookies give it a try it’s….in the bedroom.

Is it Dinner or Supper??

My friends think it’s funny when I say “What are you having for supper tonight?”   “PPPPffffffttttt Supper? it’s called dinner Angie” so they tell me!
I have always said supper, what’s the big deal dinner, supper same difference right?
I’m not thinking so guys, read on…..

I’ve done a little research:

Dinner is the main meal of the day, eaten in the evening or at midday
Middle English 1250-1300
Originally breakfast and then later lunch usually the main meal of the day, the time from midday to evening.   People started say din-din in 1905.
Are you ready for din-din gosh I’d rather say supper thank you. 🙂

Breakfast/Dinner….

Supper , the evening meal, often the principal meal of the day,
the last meal of the day” , “to eat the evening meal”
Middle English 1150-1475

Supper

I think I’ll stick with Supper since it seems to be the correct way of using the english language in describing what I eat at my “evening meal”. 🙂

Fun Friday Cocktail – Calimocho or Kalimotxo

A Calimocho (also spelled Kalimotxo) is a 50/50 mix of red wine and Coke — yeah it sounds gross, but you really, really need  to try this—it is favored by Spanish youth, looking for a sweet, cheap buzz.  Or for a frugalista with a little Portuguese blood in their veins such as myself 🙂

The drink was supposedly created — or at least named — at a festival in Algorta, Spain, in 1972, when some young entrepreneurs discovered that the wine they had planned to sell tasted not just bad but toxic, and added Coke and ice to hide the flavor.

It is an acquired taste, think of it like sangria my favorite drink without the fruitiness.

Calimocho should be a mix only for really really crappy wine, or in other words harsh and cheap, you don’t want to waste a good wine,  Calimocho wine should be “strong and dry”.

The Calimocho is a huge hit in Chile and Argentina, a red-wine-and-Coke combination is known as a jote, in Croatia, it’s a bambus, in Germany, a kora or korea.

Maybe it will become a big hit right here in Muskoka!!

Just give it a try, as they say you haven’t lived until you’ve tried something new……

 CALIMOCHO

1 ounce Coke

2 ounces Rhum Clement V.S.O.P. rum (optional, just adds a little kick)

2 ounces rioja or other dry red wine.

Combine the ingredients in a tall glass filled with ice, and serve.

polysyllabic profundities

I just saw a post by diannegray  She is inviting people to play the game Look.

The idea of the game is to locate the word ‘look’ in whatever manuscript you have lying around, then post it with the surrounding paragraphs. Afterwards, invite other authors to do the same.  These paragraphs are from my first attempt at a novel – nowhere near finished yet, but I’d love some comments to see what you think.

Ethan looked at himself in the mirror for the third time.  The deep circles under his eyes and the numerous laugh lines did much to convince him that he had earned each of his 38 years.  Laugh lines he thought,  were the definition of irony.  He couldn’t remember the last time he had laughed.  Hell, he couldn’t remember the last time he had smiled.  Pulling his gaze from the mirror, Ethan glanced around his modest condominium.  The collection of…
