The sentence “the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog” uses every letter in the English language. 

This phrase has been used to test typewriters and computer keyboards because it uses all the letters of the alphabet.

This sentence has been used since the late 1800’s for writing practice, back then the phrase began with “A” instead of todays version “the”.

In the late 19th century it began appearing in typing and stenography lesson books.

Scouting for boys uses the phrase as practice for signalling.
