The Challenge

Take the first sentence from your favorite book and make it the first sentence of your post.

At midnight, the dogs, cats and rats rule Venice.

Venice is known by many names, The Floating City, La Dominante, The City of Bridges, it is also known as one of Europes most romantic cities and the birthplace of Antonio Lucio Vivaldi “il Prete Rosso”

Vivaldi was a brilliant  Italian composer, Catholic priest, and magnificent violinist.

What some don’t know is that the spirit of Antonio Lucio Vivaldi, also rules the streets of Venice at midnight.

Vivaldi wrote the Four Seasons, four violin concertos depicting scenes appropriate for each of the four seasons.

Vivaldi represented flowing creeks, singing birds of different species, each specifically characterized, barking dogs, buzzing mosquitoes, crying shepherds, storms, drunken dancers, silent nights, hunting parties from both the hunters’ and the prey’s point of view, frozen landscapes, ice-skating children, and warming winter fires.

If you listen in the quiet of the cooling Venice nights, you can hear the faint sounds of Vivaldis Four Season concertos….along with the dogs, cats and rats who sit quietly each night to listen to the beautiful sounds of Vivaldis Venice, the most romantic city in Europe.

Vivaldi died at the age of 63 on a July evening in 1741 at the stroke of midnight of “internal infection”.
