Happy Canada Day!!

Canada Day occurs on July 1st, the anniversary of Canada’s confederation.  Canadians commemorate the day with parades, fireworks, cookouts, and concerts.  The popularity of the holiday has been on the incline since the late 1960’s and has since become a nationwide celebration.

CanadaDay

Formerly known as “Dominion Day,” Canada Day marks the anniversary of the Constitution Act of 1867, joining Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Canada province (now Ontario and Quebec) into a single country.  The Constitution Act  granted Canada a substantial amount of independence from England, although complete independence was not given until 1982.  Prior to 1900, there was little Canadian nationalism as many Canadians regarded themselves as British citizens.  The first official celebration was held in 1917 to honor Canada’s 50th birthday.

These are two versions of our national anthem.

Saturdays, kids and beers!

Yet another weekend, it’s a long-weekend for us in Canada eh 😀

(that was for my witty me and the boss pal)

It’s Family Day on Monday here in Ontariario 😀 .

(and many other provinces and countries)

It’s also a statutory holiday so I get paid for staying home, BONUS!! THis holiday was started here in Canada in 2008, to help break up this lovely month of February and bring families together!

The weekend has started off quite well, the girls had a dance to go to last night and this morning when I woke up there were 4 girls in one bed and one who has crashed on the couch.  They didn’t go to sleep until 5:30 this morning!!!!  They were very quiet, but did have a little dance party in the basement and video taped it I really wish I could post this video I have never seen anything quite so entertaining and yet disturbing at the same time 😀

They also put makeup on one of the girls that had fallen asleep first again soooo funny, they put huge caterpillar eyebrows on her, blue eye makeup and huge red lips…they took photos as well but according to the rules placed upon me….  again I am not allowed to post them.

She looked like this but much, much worse and of course was fast asleep Hi Larry E US!!!!

I’m doing the usual weekend thing, laundry, vacuuming and I’m purging things from my bedroom which seems to be the “dumping” zone these days.  Have I ever mentioned that I hate clutter!!!

I hear the girls upstairs making breakfast oh joy , pancakes and bacon are probably on their menu, also entertaining to watch 4 teenagers and 1 tween cooking together not to mention the mess!!!!

I think I’ll hangout in the basement or shall I say the “family room”  for a little longer….it’s beautiful and sunny here today very cold still but is supposed to warm up, I think I may work on my tan later dig out a lawn chair and stock my Canadian cooler with some bevies and enjoy the afternoon.

On Monday Family Day we’re  hoping to go skating in Huntsville on an outdoor “ice trail”.

Thoughts on this first Tuesday of Twenty Thirteen

Happy New Year!!

Happy Birthday Mum E and Dad E…both my parents are new years babies and both born in the same year…what are the chances??

My maiden name begins with an E so I’ve always put it on the end of mum and dad to make of course Mum E and Dad E. genius don’t cha think?  😀

Annyywayy, let’s get back to my story:)

We usually don’t go out to celebrate the New Year , we often stay home, watch movies, eat, drink and maybe stay awake long enough to see the new year in.

Friends of ours invited us over along with approximately 38 others for a New Year celebration.

Andreas spouse “allows” pppffttt her to have a New Years party every couple of years. 🙂

I am so glad he “allowed” her this one!!  Andrea loves to entertain, is a fabulous cook, and a wonderful hostess.

She had prepared Lamb, pork, chicken, salads, potatoes and more, she’d made up cheese and cracker plates with home-made pickles and varieties of nuts and other munchies.

After dinner there was of course dessert, she’d made cheesecake, apple crisp, chocolate mousse pie and about 4 other delicious looking pies and cookies.

We all had a wonderful time , Kevin made sure that everyone’s glasses were never empty and was a gracious host as well making everyone feel at home.

We all pitched in and helped with the tidying up, and then congregated downstairs alongside the wood stove to keep us warm and watched the countdown to the New year on tv.

All of us were given tiaras with New Year across the front, party hats, noise makers, and champagne that had been chilling in the “Canadian cooler”  the snow bank and anxiously awaited the countdown.

Many of the men were wearing their tiaras , I wish I had some photos to post I’ve never seen anything so funny and my Paul is just over six feet tall quite a big guy proudly wearing his tiara with all his other buddies!  Kevin and Andreas new dog Casey joined in on the celebration by adorning a tiara himself.

Finally the clock struck 12 and a brand new year began, and with that came hugs, clinking of glasses and my favorite part the smooching :).  What I loved the most about last night was being together with our good friends and  meeting new ones.  Paul and are very blessed to have the friends that we do!!

I also need to apologize to Paul, I was not the easiest date to take out last night, as I have mentioned in a previous post or two I have gained about 25 pounds and my wardrobe is quite small, I had worked yesterday, and have been suffering with a very sore back for the last few days and I have a strange rash adorning my neck like a hideous necklace…I was a bit of a brat before we left, “I have nothing to wear”, “I look awful”,”I think I’m just going to stay home” poor guy 😦  He was quite patient with me and said lets just go over for a drink and then we’ll come home…well as it turned out he was the one waiting in the car for me last night, even had to come in and find me to say for the fifth time “let’s go”. 😀

I AM Proud to be Canadian, eh!

My friend Mary sent this to me, this is particularly true where I live, in Muskoka Ontario, Canada,Here is what Jeff Foxworthy had to say about Canadians during a recent appearance at Caesars in Windsor:

If your local Dairy Queen is closed from
September through May,

You may live in Canada .
If someone in a Home Depot store
Offers you assistance and they don't work there,
You may live in Canada .
If you've worn shorts and a parka at the same time,
You may live in Canada .
If you've had a lengthy  telephone conversation
With someone who dialed a wrong number,
You may live in Canada .
If 'Vacation' means going anywhere
South of Detroit for the weekend,
You may live in Canada .
If you measure distance in hours,
You may live in Canada .
If you know several people
Who have hit a deer more than once,
You may live in Canada .
If you have switched from 'heat' to 'A/C'
In the same day and back again,

You may live in Canada .
If you can drive 90 km/hr through 2 feet of snow
During a raging blizzard without flinching,

You may live in Canada .
If you install security lights on your house and garage,
But leave both unlocked,

You may live in   Canada .
If you carry jumper cables in your car
And your wife knows how to use them,

You may live in Canada .
If you design your kid's Halloween costume
To fit over a snowsuit,

You may live in Canada .
If the speed limit on the highway is 80 km --
You're going 95 and everybody is passing you,

You may live in Canada .
If driving is better in the winter
Because the potholes are filled with snow,

You may live in Canada .

If you know all 4  seasons:

Almost winter, winter, still winter,
And road construction,
You may live in Canada .
If you have more  miles
On your snow blower than your car,
You may live in Canada .
If you  find -2 degrees 'a little chilly',
You may live in Canada
