I was cleaning out the freezer and found our leftover cranberry sauce from Thanksgiving , we usually make it from scratch never finish it all and I just toss it in the freezer and forget about it.
Cranberries pack multiple disease-fighting properties and are well-known for their ability to prevent urinary tract infections . Cranberries also contain nutrients that act as antibiotics, combat the herpes virus, maintain gastrointestinal and oral health, prevent kidney stones and cancer and help to manage cholesterol.
All you need to receive these nutritional benefits is to drink 4 to 8 oz. of cranberry juice a day.
I’ve found a few great ways to use it up:
- Take about a tbsp. of cranberry sauce and put into each compartment of an ice cube tray and toss in the freezer. Add a couple of cubes to a glass of orange juice, or add to a glass of water or soda water.
- Stir chopped fresh rosemary into cranberry sauce and serve as a topping on cream cheese and crackers or spread the mixture on baguette slices and top with Brie and broil for a couple of minutes.
- Add 2 tbsp. of cranberry sauce to a breakfast smoothie or toss in a couple of cranberry cubes to add a little texture and coolness.
- For a twist on a Cosmo, add 1 oz vodka to 2 tbsp of cranberry sauce in a short glass and top with soda water.
- For a Shirley Temple add the cranberry sauce to equal part lemon-lime soda and orange juice
